| Type: gene |
The COL2A1 gene is a gene that encodes for the pro-alpha1(II) chain of type II collagen, a protein that is a major component of cartilage. While the primary function of COL2A1 is related to cartilage development and maintenance, research has also explored its potential role in cancer.
Overexpressed in: Osteosarcoma, chondrosarcoma, breast, lung.
COL2A1 may facilitate the migration and invasion of tumor cells by interacting with other proteins and promoting the degradation of the extracellular matrix.
