SERPINH1 - Serpin Family H Member 1 / Heat Shock Protein 47

Abbreviation: SERPINH1, HSP47

Alternative Names: Hsp47, Colligin, Collagen-Binding Protein

Type: Endoplasmic-reticulum molecular chaperone / collagen-specific chaperone

Function: HSP47 is an endoplasmic-reticulum-resident molecular chaperone that specifically binds procollagen and facilitates correct collagen folding, triple-helix formation, maturation, and secretion. It is particularly important for extracellular-matrix and fibrotic collagen production.

Cancer: ↑ Frequently increased in multiple cancers and tumor-associated stroma. Elevated HSP47 can promote collagen maturation and extracellular-matrix deposition and has been associated with tumor growth, angiogenesis, migration, invasion, metastasis, and poor prognosis. HSP47 inhibition can reduce collagen-dependent tumor-supportive processes in experimental models.
