SBF2-AS1 - SET Binding Factor 2 Antisense RNA 1

Type: Long non-coding RNA / antisense RNA / post-transcriptional and epigenetic regulator

Function: SBF2-AS1 is a long non-coding RNA located antisense to the SBF2 gene. It regulates gene expression through mechanisms including microRNA sequestration, modulation of target mRNA expression, and interactions with chromatin-regulatory complexes such as PRC2. Through these mechanisms, SBF2-AS1 can influence cell-cycle progression, proliferation, migration, invasion, metastasis, angiogenesis, and treatment response.

Cancer: ↑ Frequently overexpressed in multiple cancers and predominantly functions as an oncogenic lncRNA. High SBF2-AS1 expression is associated with increased tumor size, advanced stage, lymph-node and distant metastasis, poorer differentiation, and unfavorable survival. SBF2-AS1 promotes proliferation, migration, invasion, metastasis, and treatment resistance through multiple miRNA-target axes and epigenetic mechanisms. SBF2-AS1 inhibition generally suppresses malignant behavior in experimental models.
