COX17 = cytochrome c oxidase copper chaperone COX17, it helps deliver copper for mitochondrial complex IV / cytochrome c oxidase, supporting oxidative phosphorylation, mitochondrial fitness, and in some contexts tumor-cell growth. COX17 is more specifically an intracellular mitochondrial copper trafficking / complex IV assembly factor, not a general copper importer like SLC31A1/CTR1.
Usually pro-cancer when overexpressed or required by OXPHOS-dependent tumor cells
