| S-adenosyl-L-methionine (SAMe) is a naturally occurring compound involved in methylation, transsulfuration, and aminopropylation pathways. It has been studied for its potential therapeutic effects in various diseases, including cancer and Alzheimer’s disease (AD). - B-12 and folic acid to help facilitate the effects of SAMe -In AD, hypomethylation of certain genes (e.g. APP, BACE1) leads to increased amyloid-β production. SAMe supplementation may reverse this. -SAMe is a cofactor in the synthesis of dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine, which are often deficient in AD and depression. -Studies in AD animal models show improved cognitive function, reduced amyloid plaque formation, and restored methylation patterns -Some human data support cognitive improvement when combined with B vitamins and folate, especially in early or mild cognitive impairment. Cancer: -Tumor suppessive in some cancers, pro-tumor risks in others. |
