| CYP27B1 is the enzyme responsible for converting 25‐hydroxyvitamin D into its active form, 1,25‐dihydroxyvitamin D (calcitriol). -A higher expression of CYP27B1 may correlate with a more differentiated tumor phenotype and has been associated in some reports with a better prognosis, potentially via local production of calcitriol that can help regulate cell proliferation and promote apoptosis. - Reduced expression of CYP27B1 has been linked in some cases to more advanced disease and poorer outcomes. |
