Peroxiredoxin 4 (PRDX4) is one of the members of the peroxiredoxin family of antioxidant enzymes. It plays a key role in reducing hydrogen peroxide and other peroxides, thereby contributing to the maintenance of the intracellular redox balance. In addition to its antioxidant function, PRDX4 is located in the endoplasmic reticulum (and can be secreted), which adds complexity to its role in cellular homeostasis, stress responses, and cancer biology.

– Several studies have reported that PRDX4 is overexpressed in various cancers, including lung, breast, prostate, and gastrointestinal cancers.
