NNMT, Nicotinamide N-methyltransferase: Click to Expand ⟱
Source:
Type: enzyme
NNMT (Nicotinamide N-methyltransferase) is an enzyme that has been implicated in various diseases, including cancer. Research has shown that NNMT is overexpressed in several types of cancer, such as breast, lung, and colon cancer.
NNMT is involved in the metabolism of nicotinamide, a form of vitamin B3. The enzyme catalyzes the transfer of a methyl group from S-adenosylmethionine (SAMe) to nicotinamide, resulting in the formation of N-methyl nicotinamide (MNA) and S-adenosylhomocysteine (SAH).
NNMT has been shown to promote cell growth and proliferation in cancer cells.
