TRF2, Telomeric Repeat–Binding Factor 2: Click to Expand ⟱
Source:
Type:
TRF2 is a core component of the shelterin complex that caps telomeres and prevents chromosome ends from being recognized as DNA double-strand breaks. In cancer, TRF2 is frequently overexpressed or functionally reprogrammed, enabling unlimited proliferation while suppressing lethal DNA damage responses.
TRF2 Status in Cancer
-Upregulated in many solid tumors (breast, lung, colorectal, glioma, melanoma)
-High TRF2 correlates with:
  -Advanced stage
  -Genomic instability tolerance
  -Poor prognosis
-Often elevated independently of telomerase (TERT)

TRF2 vs Telomerase
| Feature | TRF2 | Telomerase (TERT) |
| ------------------------ | ------------------ | ----------------- |
| Function | Protects telomeres | Extends telomeres |
| Cancer role | Hides damage | Restores length |
