| Creatinine Clearance - CCr / CrCl Abbreviation: CCr, CrCl Type: Renal function biomarker / clinical outcome / estimated glomerular filtration measure Function: Creatinine clearance estimates the volume of plasma cleared of creatinine per unit time and is used as an approximation of glomerular filtration rate and kidney function. It may be measured from timed urine and serum creatinine or estimated using clinical equations. Renal Function: ↓ Reduced creatinine clearance indicates impaired kidney filtration and reduced renal function. ↑ Creatinine clearance generally indicates better filtration, although abnormally high values can occur in hyperfiltration states. Favorable Direction: ↑ Creatinine clearance toward the normal physiological range is generally favorable when renal impairment is present. Interpretation Note: Creatinine clearance is influenced by age, sex, body size, muscle mass, creatinine production, and the method of calculation. It should not be interpreted as identical to measured GFR or eGFR. |
