| Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) is a housekeeping gene that encodes a protein involved in glycolysis, a metabolic pathway that converts glucose into energy. GAPDH is a crucial enzyme in the glycolytic pathway, and its expression is often used as a control gene in molecular biology experiments. GAPDH has been shown to be overexpressed in various types of tumors, including breast, lung, colon, and prostate cancer. Cancer cells often exhibit increased glycolysis, even in the presence of oxygen, a phenomenon known as the Warburg effect. GAPDH overexpression can contribute to this increased glycolysis. |
