| Histone acetyltransferases (HATs) are a family of enzymes that play a crucial role in the regulation of gene expression by modifying chromatin structure. HATs transfer acetyl groups to the lysine residues of histone proteins, which are the main components of chromatin. This modification, known as histone acetylation, leads to the relaxation of chromatin structure, allowing for increased access of transcription factors to DNA and promoting gene expression. HATs is overexpressed in cancers with poor prognosis. |
